Totalstation and EDMpy in action

This year we introduced a new software for data management in the field.

This year we introduced a new software for data management in the field. For years we used EDMWin (https://oldstoneage.com/osa/tech/edmwin/) and EDMMobile (https://oldstoneage.com/osa/tech/edmmobile/) for data management and measuring and recording objects at the site. EDMWin was developed by Harold Dibble and Shannon McPherron and provided for free to the community. Many thanks for this great contribution!

Now it was time to say good-bye to an old friend and to update to a new software: EDMpy (https://github.com/surf3s/EDM). EDMpy is a Python version of EDM-Mobile and EDMWin. It is developed by Shannon McPherron and currently available as Beta version on his GitHub page. Shannon supported us great during the transition and fixed some issues for us remotely. Many thanks for this great support!

After the first set-up, the new system worked exceptionally well with our Leica TS07 total stations. EDMpy is optimised for touchscreens and, hence, makes data entry super easy as you can skip using the stylus/pen at all. We run EDMpy on a Microsoft Surface Go2 tablets and connect it via Bluetooth to our Leica TS07 total stations.
