PalArchGroup members Philip R. Nigst, Timothy Canessa and Samuel Kasemann attended the Geoarchaeology in Vienna 2025 Conference.

From 12 February to 14 February 2025 PalArchGroup members Philip R. Nigst, Timothy Canessa and Samuel Kasemann attended the Geoarchaeology in Vienna 2025 Conference. The conference was organised by Thomas Beard, Doris Jetzinger, Valentina Laaha and Doralice Klainscek. It was funded by Doctoral School of Historical and Cultural Studies and the Vienna Doctoral School of Ecology and Evolution, along with a workshop grant from the Human Evolution & Archaeological Sciences (HEAS) research network.

The primary goal of the conference was to connect people interested in geoarchaeology and provide a space to share and exchange. Building a strong network is a crucial step toward greater exchange in the highly interdisciplinary field of geoarchaeology. Positioned at the intersection of diverse methods and approaches, researchers in this still-evolving field must establish robust connections to enhance collaboration and create a solid foundation across archaeological disciplines.

We had a wonderful keynote by Lisa-Marie Shillito entitled "Every Archaeological Problem Starts as a Problem in Geoarchaeology". There was also a wonderfful junior keynote by William Chase Murphree on his PhD research ("Examining Upper Palaeolithic Fire Use using a Geoarchaeological Approach"). One day was committed to presentations (oral and poster) and lot's of space for meeting people, discussions, networking opportunities. The second day was arranged around round-table discussions focusing on a number of themes.

Many thanks to the organisers for a wonderful conference!
